Copies of Africa, Magufuli and Change, the 461 blockbuster publication  to honor the Late President John Pombe Magufuli of Tanzania  have been brought to Tanzania for official launching in the ‘home country’.

The launching is scheduled for August 5, 2023 at St. Augustine University in the Northern Tanzania City of Mwanza and August 12, 2023 at  Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam.  The Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda is Guest of Honor at the St. Augustine University launching—where Janeth Magufuli, wife of the late Pan-Africanist President will receive a copy of the book, the author has told TZBN.

It  had earlier been planned for the Magufuli family to receive the book before  its first launch in Lilongwe, but that did not happen. Instead, the family receives the book at St. Augustine University in Mwanza, where the  launching is scheduled to start at 2:00 pm.

The author,  Prof. Malango Chinthenga from the University of Hebron in Lilongwe, Malawi, , is already in Mwanza after  a long trip which saw him pass  through the cities of Mbeya and Dodoma by road carrying what he described as “a heavy load of  books” in the car.  At Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam on August 12, 2023, the launching is scheduled to start at  4:00pm.

Visitor statistics on www.tzbusinessnews.com indicate a massive following among Tanzanians of this book.  The story on this book “Africa, Magufuli and Change: An Integrated Approach in Abolishing Africa’s Modern Economic Slavery is the most read article on the website–indicating a special interest in either the book or the late President, or both the book and the late President.

The book was well received at the initial launch on June 30th, 2023 in Lilongwe, Malawi, where the first copy was auctioned off at USD 600 (Tsh 1,450,000 using the June 30, 2023 exchange rate.

The  461-page volume, written by Malawian University Lecturer, Prof. Malango Chinthenga from the University of Hebron in Lilongwe, is described in its Forward as “a must read”  for all people concerned with development work”.

The Guest of honor at the initial launching at Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe was Dr Grace Kumchulesi, Director of Planning at Malawi’s National Planning Commission.  Dr. Kumchulesi said at this event:  “Africa, Magufuli and Change: An Integrated Approach in Abolishing Africa’s Modern Economic Slavery  is  an amazing project and I am privileged to be invited at such a prestigious occasion.”

Dr Grace Kumchulesi (L) hands over first purchased book to successful bidder.

She also remarked. “Personally, I liked Magufuli and He transformed Tanzania within a very short period because of his high level leadership discipline. I congratulate Professor Malango Chinthenga for pioneering the work through this insightful publication’.

The book reviewer, Prof. David Boston Kamchacha, says  the book will help those who are studying development economics as well as development studies in various universities and colleges. It should  also help politicians.

Early chapters  of the book create the genesis for its later argument that the Late President John Pombe Magufuli is the best example of the kind of  leadership Africa needs at this point in time.

“The book…has shown that Africa  has the capacity and resources to develop at the same pace, if not faster, than its colonial masters who continually and subtly want to keep Africa as slaves in a modern time,” Dr. Kamchacha says in his forward.
